PATNA: Pataliputra University (PPU) and Magadh University (MU) held a joint counselling session with the newly appointed 170 teachers of six different subjects at the university headquarters here on Wednesday. PPU vice-chancellor (VC) Gulab Chand Ram Jaiswal and MU officiating VC D P Triwary were present at the session.
Jaiswal said the teachers were appointed as assistant professors by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) against the vacancies created in the then undivided Magadh University.
“After the bifurcation of the Magadh University in March 2018, 25 of 44 colleges located in Patna and Nalanda districts came under the jurisdiction of the PPU. The two universities also signed an MoU to share assets and liabilities,” he added.
As per the MoU, PPU has got 55% share and the MU 45%. However, PPU has so far not got its due share from the MU for one reasons or another. MU has also not handed over relevant papers related to teaching and non-teaching staff to the PPU.
According to PPU media incharge B K Mangalam, altogether 170 newly appointed teachers turned up for the joint counselling. The number of newly appointed teachers who attended the counselling for six different subjects was Hindi (31), Sanskrit (7), sociology (24), political science (46), botany (26) and zoology (36), Mangalam said, adding the PPU and MU would hold a joint counselling session with the newly appointed teachers in other subjects soon.
According to PPU sources, of the 170 newly appointed teachers who attended the joint counselling session, the PPU is entitled to get at least 55% of these teachers numbering more than 100. After getting proper allotment subject wise, these teachers will be posted at different constituent colleges of the university in Patna and Nalanda districts.
The PPU, which has introduced 11 PG courses, is facing acute shortage of teachers. It has urged the state government to appoint at least 18 professors, 36 associate professors and 72 assistant professors for running the PG departments smoothly.
