AGRA: The special task force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh on Friday busted a five-member gang allegedly involved in printing and circulating counterfeit currency notes in denomination of Rs 100 in Agra and nearby cities.
Fake currency with a face value of Rs 35K and the equipment used for printing the fake currency were also seized.
According to police, the suspects--Shivam Tomar, Omkar Jha, Avdhesh Savita, Sunil Sisodiya and Lakhan Singh--hail from Agra and are in the age group of 25-30 years.
During interrogation, the accused told STF that they had been operating this business for more than one year and had circulated over Rs 1 crore of fake currency in the market so far.
STF officials said that during interrogation, Omkar told them that they had prepared the data from a note of an original series of 05A by scanning it. In order to make the currency look genuine, the accused used to take out the silver thread from a stamp paper of Rs 10 and place it in the fake notes, as people usually check for it in the Rs 100 notes.
The notes were being circulated in villages and cities with the help of agents, who took a commission of Rs 5k for circulating of Rs 10k. The accused disclosed the names of five persons, who were working with them for circulating fake notes in the market. Each note took almost 4-5 minutes for printing and it cost them around Rs 900 for making a wad of Rs 10K, revealed the accused.
An FIR has been registered under section 489 (Counterfeiting currency-notes or bank-notes) of the IPC at Sadar police station.
