Defaulters in Marathwada owe Rs 848 crore to MSEDCL

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has decided to launch a recovery drive in all the eight districts of Marathwada to recover dues to the tune of Rs 848 crore from 2,43,43,597 consumers across domestic, industrial and commercial categories.

AURANGABAD: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has decided to launch a recovery drive in all the eight districts of Marathwada to recover dues to the tune of Rs 848 crore from 2,43,43,597 consumers across domestic, industrial and commercial categories.
In a statement issued on Friday, the MSEDCL said as many as 7,574 consumers owe more than Rs 1 lakh to the company and put together these consumers owe a whopping sum of Rs 231.94 crore.

A state power utility official said that they have launched already launched a campaign to reach out to the consumers for recovery.
“The company has urged to all such consumers who owe over Rs 10,000 to clear their dues by September 18. The consumers have been issued notices through text messages urging them to clear their bills. Standing orders have been issued to the staff to straight away disconnect the power supply of those who owe over Rs 10,000 to the MSEDCL. If any consumer is found to have re-connected the supply in an unauthorized manner, he or she would be dealt with sternly,” he said.
The MSEDCL has also threatened the defaulters of displaying their names on digital boards prominently at offices of the corporation or even at main thoroughfares. If required, the MSEDCL has also decided to take help of police in its dues recovery drive.
The official regretted that the list of defaulters include highly-placed officials and staff, people’s representatives, prominent citizens as well as senior officials. “Action against all the defaulters would be recorded. No defaulter would be spared from September 18 onward,” he said.
