MUZAFFARPUR: At least three policemen were injured in a violent clash between villagers and Aurai police at Madhuban Besi village under Aurai police station area, nearly 60km east from Muzaffarpur town on Saturday evening.
The injured cops were admitted to local primary health centre from where they were released after first aid.
According to sources, the incident took place around 5pm when a police team went to Madhuban Besi after getting information about a youth’s body lying in a chaur (wetland).
Locals started protesting over the death soon after the police team reached the spot. The locals believed that the youth was murdered and his body was dumped there. But the police claimed the youth had drowned.
An eyewitness said the hot exchange of words took an ugly turn when a policeman slapped a local villager. “This infuriated the villagers who, in turn, attacked the cops with bamboo sticks and other objects. They have also made four to five policemen hostages, demanding to call senior police officers there,” he said.
Muzaffarpur SSP Manoj Kumar said three policemen received minor injuries in the incident. “They have been released from local PHC following first-aid treatment,” he said.
He, however, feigned ignorance about policemen kept as hostages there. “I will verify it from local police,” he said.
