NEW DELHI: The stay on declaration of the student union poll results in Jawaharlal Nehru University by Delhi high court remains in place. However, the campus echoed with joy and celebration as the vote-counting trend declared by the university election committee showed the left-unity panel ahead in all four posts.
The court on September 17 will hear on a petition filed by two varsity students alleging that their nomination to the councilor post was illegally rejected.
Following a meeting with all political student organisations on Saturday, the chief election commissioner decided to continue with the counting for the polling held on September 6.
Though the EC withheld the releasing of the trends of the last few votes, students of the left unity panel celebrated with song, dance on the beats of the drum. ABVP said supported the EC decision on the issue.
However, other student organisations alleged that the administration wanted to weaken the JNUSU. "This is a direct interference of the administration in the election process," said Sucheta Dey, All India Students Union president and former JNUSU president.
