KOLKATA: West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his deep grief on the demise of 95-year-old legal legend, eminent lawyer and former Union law minister Ram Jethmalani, on Sunday. Governor Dhankhar gave rare insight into life and time of Jethmalani with whom he shared both political and legal space.
Dhankhar, who himself was a senior Supreme Court lawyer, paid tribute to Jethmalani: "India has lost an exceptional lawyer and iconic public figure.
By his veritable intellect and wit he enriched and enlivened both the Court and the Parliament. Gifted with amazing oratory, Jethmalaniji was exceptionally intrepid and never shied away from expressing himself boldly on any subject. I have had many shared moments with him both in politics and in the courts of law, when on occasions we were on the same side, and also faced him from the other side."
His imprints on our legal scenario, particularly criminal jurisprudence, would immortalize him. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and followers of the legend. His absence would be felt as much as his presence. May his soul rest in peace, he added.
