Bodh Gaya to be developed as iconic tourist destination, Bihar CM reviews its development plan
PATNA: Bodh Gaya will be developed as one of the 16 iconic tourist destinations in the country.
State’s tourism department on Monday made a detailed presentation before CM Nitish Kumar about the prepared plan for developing Bodh Gaya as one of the iconic tourist destinations and the related talks held at a different level.
During the presentation, held at ‘Sankalp’ hall in the CM residence here, Nitish was informed about the development vision and plan to provide world-class accommodation to tourists in Bodh Gaya, the seat of learning of Lord Buddha.

While reviewing the presentation. CM asked the official to make a development plan only after visiting the spot. He asked the tourism department to fix a date to visit Bodh Gaya in the near future so that the idea of developing the place could be understood in a better way. “Spot visit is necessary. It will be practical to make project after visiting the place,” CM said.
While recounting the actions taken by the state government for development of Bodh Gaya, CM said the state government was setting up a Mahabodhi Cultural Centre which would have an auditorium with 2,000 seating capacity. A standard guest house was also being built there.
“If Bodh Gaya has to be showcased anywhere outside, nothing will be better than the statue of Lord Buddha which is inside Mahabodhi temple and its Bodhi tree,” CM said and asked the officials to work in this direction.

CM further said the state government has taken several steps to improve facilities at Bodh Gaya. He said the boundary wall of Mahabodhi temple has been strengthening to protect the campus.
“The state government is also working on a plan to link Bodh Gaya, Rajgir and Vaishali, all three important places where Lord Buddha visited and stayed. We are also working to provide all facilities to Buddhist monks and tourists visiting Bodh Gaya from other places,” Nitish said.
State’s tourism minister Ramesh Kumar Rishi and chief secretary Deepak Kumar also were present during the presentation.
Earlier, the state’s environment, forest and climate change department made a presentation before the CM on Agroforestry Policy-2019.
Making the presentation, the department’s principal secretary Deepak Kumar Singh informed that a total of 846.83 lakh samplings was planted in the state from FY 2012-13 to 2018-19. He informed CM about the different aspects of the policy.
CM asked the officials to work for promoting marketing of agroforestry produces. He also called for educating farmers across the state for promoting crop cycle.
