BEGUSARAI: Five girl inmates of Begusarai shelter home escaped after thrashing the guard early on Monday morning. Later, four of them were recovered from Begusarai railway station with the help of GRP.
Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar said one girl was still missing and efforts were on to recover her as well. The missing girl belongs to Sahebganj district in Jharkhand.
The shelter home superintendent, Anuja Kumari, said the girls had a scuffle with the woman guard around 6:30am.
“The girls snatched the keys of the main gate and locked the guard inside before fleeing away,” she said.
Anuja said all the five girls are aged between 15 and 17 years. The girls recovered by the police remained tight-lipped over their attempt to flee.
The shelter home is operated by Karpoori Thakur Rural Development Organisation, Patna, under the state social welfare department. It is situated at Nirala Nagar, Ratanpur under Ratanpur police outpost in Begusarai town area.
Police sources said an NGO had brought the girls to the shelter home from a red-light area at Balika in Begusarai district about a month ago. Police sources said one of the girls was to be sent back home on Monday. She didn’t want to return and that might be the reason for her fleeing, along with four others.
