Lucknow Lions change their focus

Article content

The Lucknow & District Lions Club has changed it’s focus for the future. In the future there will be limited fun raising for village projects. The Village of Lucknow is so fortunate to have so many recreational facilities that large fundraising projects are no longer needed. Our focus will be our motto, “WE SERVE”. We will continue to serve the village in any capacity in which we are able.

Our fundraising will continue in the form of collecting aluminum cans for recycle. We hope the population in the area will continue to support us with this event.

For the children we will continue with our “Project Pride” where we hand out flags and certificates to all Grade 1 students at Lucknow and Brookside. We will also support two free skating events. We will also continue to participate in the fall fair parade and the Christmas parade.

This year we have completed our pledge to the Wingham and District Hospital. We also donated to the Lucknow Medical Centre and contributed to the defibrillator installed at Circle K.

We will continue to support the Lucknow Community Centre and take our turn at bar tending when called. We will continue to support other groups in the Village, like the Lucknow Agricultural Society, the Kinsmen and the Legion with projects they have.

Our contributions to the A9 District will remain the same. We will support the youth exchange, peace poster contests, Camp Kirk, Camp Dorset, and the public speaking contest for students. We will continue to support keeping the memory of our war heroes forever.

The Memorial Forest will continue on and hopefully grow in the future.

This year our club was singled out by the International President by selecting Kathy Todd as a recipient of the Leadership Award. She was presented with the medal at the annual June BBQ.

The club is still a going concern, but we welcome anyone wishing to join in on the fun. The most important thing is our service to you.
