CHENNAI: The Delhi Police are emulating their peers in Chennai over the successful cashless fine system for traffic rule violations.
A team from Delhi police, headed by Mohammad Taj Hassan, DGP (traffic), visited Chennai police commissioner AK Viswanathan on Monday to discuss the modalities to enforce a similar penalty system in the national capital.

Later in the day, additional commissioner (traffic) A Arun took the team from Delhi to the modern control room and the centralised monitor operations on the seventh floor in the commissioner’s office, where they were briefed about the functioning of the cashless operations across the city.
“Cashless transactions help us serve the road users better,” Arun said, adding that Hassan, a 1987-batch IPS officer, clarified several doubts about implementing the system more effectively in Delhi. The Chennai officers also explained their Delhi counterparts how unnecessary quarrels between cops and the general public was reduced to nil after the cashless transaction system was roped in.
Hassan also collected data about centralising the system and the functioning of the payment portals, including e-seva centres and post office counters. He said he would try to implement a similar cashless penalty system in Delhi after discussing the Chennai model with his seniors.
The team from Delhi also inquired about cameras used by their Chennai counterparts to rein in traffic offenders. An officer said, “We will introduce these ANPR cameras in all the important traffic signals in the city.”
