STF arrested JMB terrorist from Chennai
KOLKATA: The Special Task force of Kolkata police teamed up with the Chennai police to nab a Jammat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operative who has been looking after the terror group’s operations in South India along with the explosives section.
The accused has been identified as Asadullah Sk alias Raja (35), hails from Dangapara at Bhatar in Burdwan.

“Asadullah was the closest aide of Ejaz Ahmad, the head of India operations (Amir) who was nabbed by STF recently from Gaya. Asadullah fled from the spot moment before we raided Gaya and recovered explosive used for making devices, including detonators. He had been staying at a rented accommodation at Neelankarai in Chennai for the past 10 months but visited Gaya and Itahar where he was instrumental in storing component required to prepare explosives. We are producing him at a local court at Alamdur in Tamil Nadu and bringing him to Kolkata on transit remand for having a direct link with the Bodh Gaya blasts on January 19 last year,” said Subhankar Sinha Sarkar, joint CP (STF).
The police said that Asadullah was instrumental in spreading the JMB ideology amongst labourers travelling south from Bengal, including those from the two Dinajpurs where JMB has set up a new module. Ejaz and Asadullah had become active in the past few weeks after Jammu and Kashmir was converted into union territory and the NRC was completed in Assam and had been storing explosives at Gaya for what they called “their decisive assault.”
The Kolkata Police special task force have so far nabbed 27 Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh members in the past four years, will now focus on JMB’s southern module that has carried out minor crimes to sponsor its activities.
