Chennai: Boy splashes acid on girl for rejecting his love, held

Chennai: A student of the Annamalai university, Chidambaram, was arrested and sent to prison on Tuesday, on charge of splashing acid on a girl student, allegedly because the girl rejected his advances.

Sources identified the accused as Muthamizhan of Kuthalam near Mayiladuthurai, who is a second-year student of Bachelor of Physical Education (BP. Ed) at Annamalai university.

He was in a relationship with one Reshmi (name changed) since school days. But recently, she decided to snap ties with him and even refused to speak to him.

Dejected over this, it is said he was contemplating suicide. Meanwhile, he tried to pick up an argument with the girl inside the varsity campus two days back.

But the girl had allegedly refused to speak to him and attempted to slap him with her slipper. Frustrated, Muthamizhan threw acid on her, and she sustained burn injuries on her face and hands. Passersby noticed the incident and rushed the victim to the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital in Chidambaram.Some of them also assaulted Muthamizhan, who sustained injuries and was admitted in the same hospital for first aid.

Chidambaram DSP Karthikeyan visited the spot and conducted preliminary investigation. The police registered a case against Muthamizhan and remanded him at prison on Tuesday evening.
