According to Tirupati east DSP Murali Krishna, the accused Kanuga Sivaiah was married to Obulamma for 15 years, and lived near SV Nagar in Tirupati. The couple had three daughters and were leading a good life until Sivaiah got addicted to alcohol. Sivaiah had reportedly stopped going for work and started harassing his wife.

Unable to bear the harassment anymore, Obulamma told her husband that she couldn’t live with him anymore. The couple mutually came to a decision that Sivaiah would leave for his native place at Guntakal in Anantapur district with his three daughters. However, about 15 days ago, Sivaiah was approached by Obulamma’s relatives who pressured him to live with his wife, to which he agreed.
He reached Tirupati a week ago and met his wife. But when Obulamma expressed reluctance to shift to Guntakal and live with her husband, Sivaiah statrted suspecting her fidelity.
