West Bengal: 10-foot-long rock python rescued in Howrah

KOLKATA: A 10-foot-long python was rescued from West Bengal's Howrah district on Tuesday. Locals rescued the python at the time of muharram preparations.
Around 7 in the evening the previous day, local club members discovered the python, but could not capture it. At around 11 again, the python was seen in the area.
Ropes were used by locals to tie the python and push it into a large aquarium.Wildlife officials were also contacted. On Tuesday morning, they came and rescued the python.

Howrah district forest officer Somnath Sarkar said, "The python looks healthy and we have sent it to the Salt Lake centre." Wildlife activist Subhrajyoti Chattopadhaya said, "It is an Indian Rock Python. Such pythons could be seen in the mountain areas like Purulia, Bankura or Midnapore. Usually, we do not find them in Howrah area."
The DFO said, the python might have come from the expressway. Police are also looking into the matter.
