AMARAVATI: In a move that could calm down the political tempers in the Amravati district of Andhra Pradesh, the district administration has succeeded in prevailing over the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists, who have been staying in the rehabilitation camp in the city for the last one week, to return home.
Senior officials assured the alleged victims of YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) attacks to provide security and peaceful environment in their villages if they return homes.
The district administration arranged special buses to move about 120 people from the rehabilitation camp to different villages in Palnadu region in the Guntur district.
During the daylong high-drama over Chalo Atmakur protest and counter-protest plans by the opposition TDP and ruling YSRCP, additional police forces reached the rehabilitation camp in Arundelpet and arrested TDP leaders Alapati Rajendraprasad, Naseer Ahmed, Maddali Giridhar and took the centre into their control. Senior officials, including Guntur revenue divisional officer Bhaskara Reddy and additional SP K Chakravarthy visited the function hall where the victims were staying and held discussions with them. In fact, the senior officials held similar discussions with the victims late on Tuesday but the TDP leaders prevented the victims from agreeing to move back to native places without TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu’s permission.
Realising that it would be difficult to convince the victims in the presence of party leaders, the police readied the plan to arrest the party leaders without giving scope for any controversy. After moving the party leaders out of the hall, the officials convinced the victims with a promise that they would take all measures required for their peaceful living in their villages. The officials readied a list of victims and shifted them to their villages in special buses. Police set up special pickets in their villages for the safety of the TDP activists.
