JAIPUR: Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot put CM Ashok Gehlot in a tight spot by publicly saying on Wednesday that law and order in the state is a matter of concern. His remark came a day after leader of the opposition in the state assembly Gulab Chand Kataria had blamed Gehlot for lack of policing in the wake of a series of failed law and order incidents across the state.
“The leader of opposition might have attacked the government for obvious reasons but it is true that we need to pay more attention to law and order.
Be it the Dholpur, Alwar or Behror incident, law and order remained disturbed at many places in the past few months. We should work more seriously on this,” Pilot told reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of a Gandhi Gyan Kendra and Chaupal Rajivika store here.
Pilot’s statement is being seen by Congressmen as targeted at Gehlot since the latter holds the home portfolio as well.
In pointing out the “disturbed” law and order, Pilot mentioned the series of stone-pelting incidents in Jaipur around Independence Day and the Behror incident in which a gangster broke out of a police station under covering fire provided by gang members. The Gehlot-government also faced nationwide criticism for failing to monitor the trial in the Pehlu Khan lynching case that resulted in the acquittal of all six accused men.
