Dattatraya sworn in as Himachal Governor

Shimla: Former Union Minister Mr.Bandaru Dattatreya was sworn in as the 27th Governor of Himachal Pradesh here today at an impressive ceremony.

Mr.  Bandaru Dattatreya took oath as Himachal Pradesh governor on Wednesday, succeeding Kalraj Mishra.Mr. Dattatreya, 72, was a minister of state for labour and employment in the BJP government headed by Narendra Modi in 2014 and was part of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet earlier.

He is the hill state’s 27th governor.Kalraj Mishra, the previous Himachal Pradesh governor, is now the new Rajasthan governor.

Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary Judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court administered the oath of office and secrecy to him. Jai Ram Thakur Chief Minister was also present

The Governor was given an impressive Guard of Honour on the occasion Dr. Shrikant Baldi Chief Secretary read out the appointment which was later signed by the Governor upon taking charge.

Dr Rajiv Binal Speaker Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, Former Chief Ministers Vir Bhadra Singh, Prem Kumar Dhumal, Suresh Bhardwaj Education Minister, Dr Rajiv Saizal Social Justice and Empowerment Minister  G. Kishen Reddy Union Minister of State for Home, and several other dignitaries were present.

Speaking on the occasion Governor Dattatreya said that Himachal is known as the land of God and also identified as Virbhoomi. It has high traditions, rich culture and customs which sets this mountainous region apart from others. Stating that it was a privilege to work as Governor he said that he had a vast experience of public service as a politician and now he has to discharge the responsibility of the Constitutional post. He as a Governor will help in accelerating the pace of development of the state by staying within the scope of the Constitution. The schemes implemented by the Government for the poorest of the poor and the most vulnerable person in the society could contribute to it so that the real benefits of these schemes and programs can reach the general public he said  

He said that he would work on issues like tourism development, quality education and awareness against drug addiction in the State. He also said that even though Himachal Pradesh was the highly literate state after Kerala education needs to be linked to employment. It will be his endeavor to move towards qualitative education in higher educational institutions

Dattatreya, who belongs to Telangana, is the 27th full-time governor of the hill state. A one-time pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Dattatreya got elected to the Lok Sabha from Secunderabad four times and served as minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi governments.
