PATNA: In an obvious snub to his party leader who recently demanded change of guard in Bihar, state’s deputy CM and BJP senior leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday said that CM Nitish Kumar is the captain of NDA in the state and he will remain its captain in the next assembly election in 2020 also.
Ruling out any possibility of change of “captain” in the state, Sushil Modi also said when Nitish Kumar, in the role of captain, is hitting four and sixes and defeating rivals by innings where is the question of change.

“@Nitish Kumar is the captain of NDA in Bihar and will remain its captain in next assembly elections in 2020 also. When captain is hitting fours and sixes and defeating rivals by innings where is the question of change,” Sushil Modi said in a tweet on his official Twitter handle.

Sushil Modi’s remark came two days after BJP MLC and former Union minister Sanjay Paswan said that Nitish Kumar should move to the Centre and pave way for a BJP leader to become the next CM in Bihar.
Paswan, who is considered close to a Union minister, had named Sushil Modi, besides state BJP president and Union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai as potential chief ministerial candidates.
Paswan’s remark evoked angry protest from leaders of Nitish Kumar’s party- the JD(U), who urged the BJP national leaders to rein in people like Sanjay Paswan.
Earlier in July this year, Sushil Modi had said on the floor of the Bihar assembly that the NDA would contest the next assembly elections in Bihar under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, rubbishing speculations that the BJP might insist on having an upper hand in the state’s coalition government after achieving unprecedented victory in the 2019 general election.
