The Manchester VA Medical Center is using bees to help ease the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in veterans.In the Hives and Heroes program, veterans tend to beehives each week, learning how bees help farmers grow food and produce honey. >> Download the FREE WMUR appThe hope is that the activity will promote relaxation and healing."It helps them with PTSD, it helps them with anxiety, it helps them with exercise, it keeps their mind focused and gives them something to do and study,” said beekeeper Karen Eaton. “It builds teamwork. It builds camaraderie.". "You know, I think it's one of these things that's a great stress reducer,” said beekeeper and veteran Bert Bingel. “So, you know, those of us that have dealt with the PTSD, it can help us soothe, allay those kind of fears." Many of the veterans who've participated in the program say it's changed their lives.
