NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old woman’s body was found next to her baby at her house in east Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar on Wednesday morning. The body had bullet wounds. Police have detained her husband and are questioning her in-laws. The woman’s family alleges that she was murdered.
DCP (Shahdara) Amit Sharma said that the woman, Shivangi, worked as a teacher at a private school in Dilshad Garden.
Police received a call on Wednesday afternoon from her husband, Prashant, about her death.
Police said that Shivangi and Prashant got married over a year ago. She used to work as a teacher while Prashant used to work at a shop near her house. They had met at his shop, fallen in love and decided to get married.
Shivangi had quit her job in April while she was expecting her daughter, who was born last month. He family members said that Shivangi did not mention being ill-treated by her in-laws but had reduced her interaction with her parents.
“She was a strong woman and it is unlikely that she would commit suicide,” said Rajiv Narula, Shivangi’s father.
According to Prashant, no one in his family had heard the gunshot, and Shivangi was lying in a pool of blood in their room. He told the cops that he was sleeping when the incident happened, and the body was discovered by his family.
Police said that they received a complaint from the woman’s family, based on which an inquiry is being conducted. “We have registered a case of murder,” said Sharma.
The SDM has been informed about the incident, and a magisterial inquiry has been ordered. Police said that they have not received any complaint of marital harassment from Shivangi or her family in the past.
