GUNTUR: A day after police foiling Chalo Atmakur rally, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo Chandrababu Naidu is planning to visit the village in Macherla constituency of Palnadu region next week. Naidu, who was placed under house arrest by the police on Wednesday, visited the state party headquarters here on Thursday and took stock of the situation with the senior leaders.
He expressed serious displeasure at the police for filing false cases against the party leaders.
He charged that police looked completely surrendered to the ruling party leaders and working at the behest of the chief minister. He criticized the police for taking sides with the ruling party without following duty code.
Naidu expressed his strong desire to visit Atmakur next week to personally inspect the law and order situation in the village. He said that party leaders should be geared up to face more trouble in the coming days to protect the party cadres. “We needed to protect the cadres at any cost. We should be leading them from the front. There is no question of getting scared with police cases and harassment,” said Naidu.
He wondered police defending locking up of his house with ropes and curtailing his movements without any notice and warrant. “They have committed a grave offense by detaining me in my house without even giving a notice. Are we living in a democratic country?” asked Naidu.
Interestingly, Naidu spoke to a few party activists who went back home from the rehabilitation camp organized by the party in Guntur. Naidu called up former sarpanch Yesobu of Atmakur village over phone and enquired about the situation in the village. Yesobu told Naidu that they were repairing their house ransacked by the YSRCP activists. Naidu assured Yesobu not to worry about the threats from YSRCP as they would extend all possible support to them. Naidu had also enquired with him whether they visited the fields to begin cultivation. However, Yesobu said that they were yet to go to the fields as they were busy in getting the houses damaged in the attacks repaired.
