NEW DELHI: With just a few days left for the likely announcement of dates for the assembly polls in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand, BJP has got into election mode with a slew of strategy meetings of party office-bearers and announcements of big-ticket schemes in these states.

BJP, which is in power in all the three states going to the polls, will hold a meeting of its national general secretaries on Friday where the main topic of discussion will be the forthcoming assembly elections. Though Jharkhand had gone to the polls in 2014 after the conclusion of the elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, the party appears to be preparing for simultaneous polls in the three states this time.

The announcement of dates for the polls by the EC is expected in the next week or ten days, said people aware of the matter. On Thursday, PM Modi paid an official visit to Jharkhand, where he announced various sops, including Sahibganj multimodel terminal, inauguration of a new Vidhan Bhawan and secretariat building and covering more traders, farmers and small entrepreneurs through various insurance schemes. Modi also emphasised on the achievements of his government in the first 100 days in its second term.

In Haryana, where Modi had addressed a rally in Rohtak on September 8, CM Manohar Lal has expanded the Ayushman Bharat medical cover, increasing the salary of sanitation workers to Rs 15,000 from Rs 13,500 in urban areas and to Rs 13,500 from Rs 11,000 in rural areas. He also announced coverage of more small and medium traders under the insurance scheme. In Maharashtra, some more prominent leaders from rival Congress and NCP are expected to join BJP.

BJP leaders expressed confidence that seat-sharing with Shiv Sena would be done smoothly. The party is likely to offer about 100 seats to Sena, according to a senior party leader. Shiv Sena had won 63 seats in the 2014 assembly polls in Maharashtra. BJP has 122 seats in the 288-member assembly.

BJP leaders, including Modi and party chief Amit Shah, are flagging issues like the withdrawal of Article 370 to win over voters in the three states.
