PATNA: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an alert for scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in the state over the next four days.
An all-India weather bulletin issued by IMD stated that Bihar is expected to witness heavy rainfall on Friday. The report further stated that the intensity of fairly widespread rainfall on Friday is likely to reduce to scattered showers on Saturday and Sunday, but it is expected to increase again on Monday.
Weathermen at Patna Meteorological Centre have, however, ruled out the possibility of any heavy rainfall scenario in the coming days.
“The prevailing scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in Bihar is due to moisture feeding from Bay of Bengal through a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand. Convective activities are also supporting the showers. However, we don’t expect the showers to increase its intensity,” said a senior official at Patna Meteorological Centre.
Private weather agency Skymetweather had also stated on Wednesday that a low-pressure area formed over north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining south Uttar Pradesh along with favourable position of monsoon trough line would bring showers in Bihar over the next few days.
“In the wake of the above-mentioned weather systems, the rainfall activities will now gradually increase in Bihar. Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui, Banka, Nalanda, Munger and Bhagalpur may witness scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours. The remaining places of Bihar may witness isolated light rain during the same period,” the Skymet report stated. It said the rainfall activities would slow down from Friday onwards.

The private weather agency, however, stated that another spell of rain and thundershowers is expected in Bihar between September 16 and 19. “During this time, scattered light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells is possible. Though rainfall will continue in Bihar over the next seven to eight days, it is unlikely to cover the rain deficiency in the state,” the Skymert report stated.
As far as overall rainfall figures are concerned, Bihar is facing 21% deficient rainfall. The state has received 689.6mm rainfall from June 1 till Thursday, against the normal figure of 896mm.
