Arms racket busted in Kolkata, three arrested

Days after a petty criminal was arrested from Entally area with arms, the cops busted an arms racket in Basirhat on Thursday. It was being run by locals who are trained in Bihar’s Munger. Though three were arrested and a huge pile of arms and ammunitions was seized, raids are on in Kolkata and Basirhat simultaneously to nab other members of the gang.

KOLKATA: Days after a petty criminal was arrested from Entally area with arms, the cops busted an arms racket in Basirhat on Thursday. It was being run by locals who are trained in Bihar’s Munger. Though three were arrested and a huge pile of arms and ammunitions was seized, raids are on in Kolkata and Basirhat simultaneously to nab other members of the gang.
“After getting an input on Thursday, we arrested Safikul Gazi alias Mirza (32), a resident of Habra in North 24 Parganas.
He was arrested from in front of Taratala Mint and some arms-making equipment were seized from him. He was interrogated and based on his statement, a raid was conducted at an illegal arms-making factory in a hut inside a bheri of Chaital 4 number village, under Minakha police station. We also arrested Md Samsher Alam (55) and Md Firoz (35) from , from Munger,” said a detective department officer.
Two complete single-shot fire arms, seven unfinished singleshot arms and a huge number of weapon-making equipment and machines were also seized.
The accused used to send semi-finished products to Bangladesh using the rivers. “The zeroing in of the pistols (aligning the path of the bullet and the bullseye) was completed in Bangladesh.
