Albanian immigrants uncovered in a container at Teesport face an uncertain future.

Six men were found hiding during routine Border Force searches at Riverside Trailer Park on Tuesday.

The discovery on Teesside comes on the same day as a record number of migrants were intercepted attempting to enter the UK across the English Channel.

More and more are attempting to illegally cross into Kent in boats, dinghies and improvised rafts.

While entries via Teesside are less common, is not the first time that migrants have been uncovered trying to enter.

Desperate and dehydrated migrants called 999 on March 25 after they were trapped inside a container that travelled from the Belgian port of Zebrugge.

In April, five men, one woman and a child, who said they were from Eritrea, were detained by harbour police after being discovered on a cargo ship.

In a statement, the Home Office said: "On Tuesday September 10 at around 4pm six men, aged between 18 and 30, were discovered by Border Force officers carrying out vehicle searches at the Riverside Trailer Park.

"The men, who presented themselves as Albanian nationals, were detained and transferred to immigration officials to be interviewed.

"Their cases will be dealt with in line with the immigration rules."
