Mumbai civic body identifies 20 dangerous rail overbridges
The civic authority has identified 20 rail overbridges, four in the Central Line and 16 in the Western Line which could be dangerous in case of extra load.
A day ahead of Ananth Chaturdashi -- the final day of immersion of Ganesh idols, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with the traffic police have issued a public notice advising people to pay attention to certain directives when using certain rail overbridges.
The civic authority has identified 20 rail overbridges, four in the Central Line and 16 in the Western Line which could be dangerous in case of extra load.
BMC officials said that these bridges are old and need extra care. Lakhs of Ganesh devotees use the bridges on the final day of immersion. Famous Ganpati mandals like Lalbaugcha Raja attract thousands of devotees and it creates extra pressure on the bridges, hence the advisory has been issued. Following are the directions given by the BMC for the big day:
1. While passing over the bridges for immersion, divide into small groups so that the load on the bridge is not more than 16 tonne
2. Do not dance on the bridge
3. Do not hang around on the bridge
A special note by the civic body says, "The Ganesh devotees in the Mumbai city are hereby specially intimated that they should follow the above instructions very carefully while crossing the Chinchpokli Rail overbridge and Curry Road Rail overbridge and help MCGM and traffic police for systematic procession of Ganesh immersion."
