MUMBAI: The
Assam police team which came to arrest Bandra-based builder Sameer Bhojwani in an assault and possession of illegal weapon case registered in the northeastern state could not take his custody on Wednesday. On Tuesday night, the builder complained of uneasiness and was admitted to Cooper hospital.
The Assam police team, led by inspector Kabirsingh Limboo and three others, arrived in Mumbai with a warrant from Hojai JFMC on Tuesday to arrest Bhojwani.
They brought him to the Bandra police station on Tuesday night and were making a diary entry when Bhojwani reported chest pain and hypertension. On Wednesday afternoon, the Assam police filed a plea before the Andheri magistrate court seeking sanction for detention of Bhojwani at hospital.
Magistrate SN Salve after going through Bhojwani's medical reports said he cannot be removed from the hospital in this condition and allowed Assam police's application to detain him at the hospital. The court also directed the police to produce him on September 16 if he recovers and produce a medical certificate about his health status. Sources said Bhojwani has been moved to JJ hospital and was being guarded by the Assam police.
Sources said a man who owns a plot in Malad was attacked by Nagraj Ramu Devadiga and Mohammed Salim Yasin Shaikh in Assam. The police recovered a countrymade 9mm pistol from the duo. During interrogations, they revealed the weapon was given to them by Bhojwani.
