Bihar: 11 sent to jail for violence at Exhibition Road

Altogether 11 persons--including woman Renu Kumari (42), who created ruckus which later snowballed into violence after being slapped with a fine of Rs 5,000 for not wearing seatbelt under the newly amended Motor Vehicle (MV) Act at Exhibition Road roundabout--were sent to jail on Friday.

PATNA: Altogether 11 persons--including a woman, Renu Kumari (42), who created ruckus which later snowballed into violence after being slapped with a fine of Rs 5,000 for not wearing seat belt under the newly amended Motor Vehicle (MV) Act at Exhibition Road roundabout--were sent to jail on Friday.
Police said the woman was a nurse at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). The others arrested persons were identified as Ramesh Jaiswal (55), his two sons Rahul Ranjan (25) and Raju Ranjan (23), Anup Kumar (43), Chandan Kumar (18), Kashinath Kumar (29), Yogeshwar Kumar, Viru Kumar (25), Amit Kumar (30) and Sujeet Kumar (25).
Police said it was Ramesh and his two sons with whom Renu was travelling.
Ramesh is a resident of flat number 402 of Sharda Lok Apartment and SK Puri locality in Bihar capital.
An FIR was lodged against the 11 persons and at least 200 other unknown with Gandhi Maidan police station on Thursday. The FIR was lodged on the basis of complaint of sub-inspector Brajesh Kumar Singh who had flagged the car to stop at Exhibition Road roundabout in which Renu was travelling after spotting her for not wearing the seat belt.
Gandhi Maidan police station SHO Sunil Kumar said that the woman was actually travelling with Ramesh and his two sons in a car when it was stopped after which she had protested against the fine imposed for violation of traffic rule.
“Later some local shopkeepers also joined the protest and attacked policemen. Forces from around five neighbouring police stations were rushed to spot for controlling the situation. The CCTV footage of the spot was being scanned by police to identify the rest who were also involved in violence,” he said.

“Police came to know that she is a nurse at PMCH. She complained of abdominal pain. Police had repeatedly urged her to get medically examined her at the government hospital to which she kept denying,” he said. The SHO said the car in which Renu was travelling was also seized by police.
He said that the arrested persons were slapped with mainly with charges of using criminal force and voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, wrongful restraint, rioting, unlawful assembly and criminal intimidation.
