BHAGALPUR: Three persons, including a woman, were injured in clash and exchange of fire between two groups over sexual harassment of some girls under Nathnagar police station in Bhagalpur district on Friday. The rival groups belonged to Shankarpur Bindtoli and Bandal Bindtoli of Bairiya village.
The injured persons were identified as Sunil Kumar, Birbal Mahato and Neelam Devi.
They were admitted to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH). Police sources said the Friday clash was a fallout of a September 9 incident. Some youths from Bandal Bindtoli had harassed the girls from Shankarpur Bindtoli on the occasion Karmadharma festival. Subsequently, clashes occurred that day too and complaints were lodged to police.
Police sources said Neelam of Shankarpur Bindtoli had gone to Bandal Bindtoli on Friday for purchasing milk when she was assaulted by some youths. Police teams from Nathnagar, Lalmatia, Jogsar and other police stations rushed to the spot and managed to diffuse tension.
DSP (city) Rajvansh Singh said a peace committee meeting was called and things have come to normal. We will take action against the culprits, he said. Police teams have been deployed at both the localities.
