Amid Rajasthan & MP infighting, Sonia calls for govt-party synergy
NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday sought a healthy coordination between party’s state governments and local organisations amid growing instances of in-house clashes in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan units.
Chairing a review meeting of five Congress-ruled states, which included chief ministers and state unit chiefs as also AICC in-charges, Sonia said the Congress governments needed to fulfil the manifesto promises and perform well.
In a stern tone, she said the CMs cannot rest on the laurels of having won the assembly polls. “We must deliver,” she said.
The discussions revolved around five subjects – implementation of manifesto promises, coordination between government and organisation, problems in execution of central schemes, steps being taken to mitigate economic slowdown, corrective steps for questionable decisions of previous BJP regimes and plans to showcase first anniversary of governments.
Sonia said state ministers should regularly sit in party offices to address public grievances and directed the CMs to draw a schedule.
Among those who attended the meeting were CMs Kamal Nath, Amarinder Singh, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel, V Narayanasamy; PCC chiefs Sachin Pilot and Sunil Jakhar, former PM Manmohan Singh and senior leaders Ahmed Patel and AK Antony.
