Members from Pendrell Art Society celebrated the special occasion with glimpses of their work and a celebration cake.

Secretary Marian Smith, from Albrighton, joined five years ago and has since welcomed people from across Wolverhampton – and even Shrewsbury – to the club.

She said: "It was funny really because we never all turn up at the same time. It's awkward because they are all elderly or disabled, or have holidays or appointments.

"But it was fine – it was great. We had some non-alcoholic wine, had some cake and the majority of people were there.

"But we didn't really get much work done because we were too busy nattering."

The society currently has 11 members, nearly at its maximum.

The 70-year-old said: "Some of the people who are disabled or they have a low income and it's nice to get out.

"If you didn't have something to look forward to something you would just be sitting at home.

"My drawings were more like cartoons when I joined and now I can do animals and portraits.

"In five years I have done ever so well and a lot of people have said the same.

"We don't use paints, we use pastel pencils – like a chalk-type pencil and it helps because you can rub it out if you go wrong somewhere and do it again."

The amateur artists meet every third Wednesday in the months, for nine months of the year, at Codsall Village Hall.

It runs from 9am to 4pm.
