PUNE: A 55-year-old man from Kothrud was arrested on Thursday on the charge of assaulting his neighbour (42) and her daughter with a sharp weapon at Gujarat colony over an old petty dispute.
The incident occurred when the woman and her daughter were watching a Ganesh immersion procession.
The woman, Manisha Pawar of Azadwadi, suffered head injuries, while her daughter, Sneha Pawar, suffered injuries on her hands.

“Manisha’s condition is critical,” sub-inspector Pravin Jarde of the Kothrud police said.
The police arrested the suspect — Kashinath Muluk of Azadwadi — under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act.
Jarde said the suspect and the victims were neighbours. Around 10 years ago, the families had a dispute over throwing garbage and held a grudge against each other from then.
“Manisha and her daughter were watching the immersion procession at Gujarat Colony around 12.30pm on Thursday. The suspect had gone there too,” Jarde said.

Seeing Manisha and her daughter, Muluk went back home and returned with a sharp weapon.
“He first attacked Sneha. To save herself, she tried to hold the weapon and suffered injuries on her hands,” Jarde said. “Manisha intervened to save her daughter and Muluk assaulted her on the head,” Jarde added.
The court has sent Muluk to police custody till Monday.
