EC members at JNU asked to appear before committee

NEW DELHI: The face-off between the JNU administration and the election committee (EC) is continuing with the Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) asking the EC members to appear before it on Monday, for allegedly forcefully barging into the room of dean of students without permission.
The chairperson of GRC sent a notice to the EC stating, “This is with reference to a security report dated September 12 against you regarding forcefully barging into the room of dean of students, without permission, misbehaving, threatening, instigating students to assemble, indulging in gherao and interrupting office duties on September 11.”
On Saturday, the EC had responded to the notice of the GRC’s 10-point allegations of violating Lyngdoh committee norms during the recently concluded students’ union polls.
“In case you failed to appear before the GRC as per schedule, the inquiry will be conducted ex parte and the decision of GRC will be final,” stated the letter signed by Umesh Ashok Kadam.
Speaking against the notice, AISA said, “The EC members rightly pointed out that all inquiries of GRC must be publicly held. When JNU EC members went to submit their responses to GRC, JNU security stopped, harassed and intimidated them.”
Meanwhile, NSUI has called for a protest on Monday demanding the hearing of GRC be made public.
