Trying to end couple’s fight, Delhi woman gets shot at

NEW DELHI: A woman who tried to resolve a dispute between a couple was injured when the man pulled out a gun and fired in the air to threaten his wife. The incident took place at B2 Block in Narela on Friday night. Hearing the gunshot, the other neighbours came out of their houses and chased the man, but he managed to flee. It was later found that the man was a history-sheeter, and he had gone to the area to settle a dispute with his wife.
DCP (Outer North) Gaurav Sharma said that Rachna (21) heard Javed and his wife Pinki arguing outside her house, and she stepped out in the balcony to find out why.She called out to the couple and tried to pacify them, but they refused to pay any heed. Suddenly, Javed pulled out a pistol and fired a round in the air. The bullet hit Rachna. Seeing Rachna collapse, Javed fled. Rachna’s husband Amit and a few others chased him, but he managed to flee. Rachna was rushed to a government hospital where doctors conducted surgery on her. She was declared to be out of danger.
A police probe revealed that Pinki was staying at her paternal house following a discord with Javed. Javed was released from a jail a few months back, after which he had started supplying bread to local grocery shops. On Friday, Javed reached Pinki’s house and tried to convince her family members to allow Pinki to return with him. However, when she refused, he got into an argument and threatened to shoot her. He had fired the warning shot to prove that he was serious about the threat.
A manhunt has been launched to nab Javed, who has been booked for attempt to murder.
