PATNA/MUZAFFARPUR: The strict enforcement of provisions of the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act has not only led to fracas between motorists and police personnel but also legal wranglings in the state.
For instance, Muzaffarpur DTO Nazir Ahmed lodged an FIR with the town police station late on Friday evening, accusing one Sanjiv Kumar and six others of causing obstruction in discharge of official duty, hurling abuses at him and making an abortive attempt on his life.

Muzaffarpur town SHO Om Prakash said on Saturday that the complaint was lodged against Sanjiv, a resident of Sadar police station area in Muzaffarpur district and six unknown persons under section 323 (voluntary causing hurt), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intension) of IPC.
The incident occurred during a special drive to enforce the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act in the town. The SHO said action against the accused would be taken on the basis of evidences.
Earlier, Sanjiv Kumar, a lawyer, had lodged a complaint case in the local court against the DTO, his body guards and three others, accusing them of trying to strangulate him and snatching a gold chain worth Rs 40,000 and Rs 5,000 in cash.
Kumar, in his compliant, said the incident took place around 5.30pm on September 12 when he was returning to his Khabra residence from the court on his motorbike. A vehicle checking drive was going on outside the court campus.

The DTO has denied the allegations levelled against him by the lawyer. “I had simply demanded documents of the vehicle and nothing else,” he said.
The court has fixed September 24 as the next date of hearing in the case. The accused have been booked under sections 147, 148, 307, 389 and 34 of IPC.
Meanwhile, a group of people roughed up a motor vehicle inspector (MVI) while he was undertaking the vehicle checking drive in Muzaffarpur on Saturday. The MVI, Divya Prakash, had to make a hasty retreat from the spot.
