PUNE: The Mahajanadesh Yatra, led by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, threw traffic out of gear in various parts of the city on Saturday.
Traffic was worst affected at Hadapsar, Gadital, Ramtekdi, Fatimanagar T-junction, Bhairobanala, Camp, Sarabaugh, Tilak Road, Deccan Gymkhana and Shivajinagar.
Police said that vehicles remained stranded on Pune-Solapur Road for nearly 30 minutes, while traffic was choked for 30-40 minutes in city areas.
The yatra started from Baramati in the afternoon and reached Pune city in the evening.
Local residents said a large number of people assembled on roadsides to get a glimpse of the chief minister and party leaders, adding to the chaos.
Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Pankaj Deshmukh told TOI, “We stopped traffic for five to seven minutes for smooth passage of the CM’s convoy. Traffic was affected at some pockets.”
“There was no major problem of traffic congestion. At some places, motorists were asked to take alternative routes. Traffic was stopped at Hadapsar and Ramtekdi on Solapur Road as there was no other alternative route,” he added.
