Delhi: 21 properties to be attached for power thefts

A special court of electricity, Karkardooma, has issued orders for attachment of 21 properties of power thieves.“All these properties were sealed between August 21 and September 9 after the accused did not pay the power theft fines. Law is catching up with these thieves, and apart from stiff penalties and jail terms up to five years, the properties are also getting attached,” a BSES official said.

NEW DELHI: A special court of electricity, Karkardooma, has issued orders for attachment of 21 properties of power thieves.
“All these properties were sealed between August 21 and September 9 after the accused did not pay the power theft fines. Law is catching up with these thieves, and apart from stiff penalties and jail terms up to five years, the properties are also getting attached,” a BSES official said.

The 21 properties were identified in Karawal Nagar, Harsh Vihar, New Usmanpur, Gokalpur, Bhajanpura, Welcome Colony, Seelampur, Khajoori Khas, GTB Enclave, among others, the official added.
A BSES release stated that the power thieves were cumulatively stealing around 550KW of electricity, and as per the guidelines, were levied penalties of around Rs 6.2 crore. Of the 21, in cases, the electricity was stolen by way of direct theft and in fiveby meter tampering. A BSES spokesperson urged the consumers to use electricity legally and not indulge in thefts.
