JHANSI: Even in her death, 44-year-old Poornima Srivastava from the city became immortal. Her organs gave a new lease of life to four people in different parts of the country.
Posted in the state mining department, Poornima suffered a brain stroke on the intervening night of September 1 and 2. She was airlifted to a Delhi-based private hospital, where she underwent a surgery.
"Though she gained consciousness, her body did not respond to treatment. On Thursday, she slipped into brain dead state, following which we informed the doctors about her wish to donate her organs," said Poornima's husband Rakesh Khare, also a government servant.
Senior neurosurgeon Dr S K Sogani from the Delhi hospital said the patient's liver, heart and kidneys were retrieved on Friday. "The liver and a kidney were transplanted to two patients at our centre, while the heart was sent to a hospital in Chennai. Her second kidney was passed on to a patient under at a charitable hospital in Delhi," he said.
