Three held for extortion attempt in Pune

PUNE: Dehu Road police on Saturday arrested three youths for threatening a 24-year-old man from Kivale and demanding Rs 1 lakh as extortion from him.
A police team led by sub-inspector Navnath Kudale took the suspects Sankalp Pagare (19) of Mamurdi, Yogesh Burkunde (21) of Kivale and Shubham Chavan (20) of Talegaon Dabhade into custody from Dehu Road.
Kudale told TOI that the complainant works as an estate agent in Kivale area.
On Saturday afternoon, the suspcts contacted him and told him to come near assistant commissioner of police’s office in Dehu Road under the pretext of some work. “The suspects then took the complainant into a forest land behind the office,” Kudale said.
He said that the trio told the complainant that the latter who hails from other state have been earning handsome money here. “They demanded Rs 1 l akh from him by threatening the latter for di re consequences,” Kudale said.
He said that the suspects also told him to arrange the money immediately else they would not allow him to leave from the forest land. “The complainant then requested them that he would contact his friend and request him to come to the spot with the money,” Kudale said.
The complainant contacted his friend and narrated him the entire incident. “Without wasting time, the complainant’s friend came to the polices station. We rushed to the spot and arrested the trio,” Kudale said.
He said that the police are checking whether the trio has any previous criminal record. “The suspects were produced before the court and have been sent to judicial custody. Our probe is on,” Kudale said.
