PUNE: The office of the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA) has cautioned the Indian Army officers against clicking malicious URLs or responding to e-mails which have been sent in the name of the PCDA or the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA).
The PCDA officer disburses salaries and allowances of over 40,000 serving army officers, including the chief of staff of the Indian Army.

In a special notification, the PCDA stated, “The Officers are requested not to click the URLs or respond to e-mails purportedly received from PCDA or CGDA, but actually sent by malicious sources seeking their bank details/PAN number or containing subject messages like “Armed Forces Salary Increase for 2019 as per SC Orders”."
"In the past also, malicious e-mails were being sent in the name of PCDA with the message “We are maintaining our Database, please register or login our site and update your details”. The link “https://pcdaopune.gov.in" forwarded with the message, in fact diverts the user to a malicious page with fake domain-name,” the notification stated.
It added, “These are phishing attempts. PCDA officer of Pune has never sent any hyper-link or message to the officers seeking information. The authentic e-mail addresses of PCDA are as given in ‘Contact Us’ navigation bar on home page of our website as mentioned general query-pcdaopune@nic.in; ledger-pcdaopune@nic.in; tada-pcdaopune@nic.in; and rankpay-pcdaopune@nic.in. The officers are requested to use their registered e-mail id only while contacting this office.”

The PCDA sources said it has also come to notice that fake/fraudulent calls are being made by some individuals to army officers, impersonating as officials of PCDA and asking them to share their PAN No/ bank details to deposit money to get Army group insurance fund (AGIF) bonus and other facilities.
“No officials from this office make such calls to Army officers seeking their bank details or other personal information,” a senior official said.
