Stranded in Indrayani river waters, man spends night atop tree near Pune
PUNE: A man, who had gone to the Indrayani river side at Khalumbre village in Dehu near Pune, remained stranded on top of a tree surrounded by gushing river waters throughout the night intervening Saturday and Sunday. He was rescued on Sunday morning by a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The NDRF officials told TOI, “We rescued Suresh Dhabadgaon (39) of Chakan from the top of the tree which was submerged into the river waters.”
Dhabadgaon, who works with a private company at Chakan MIDC, had gone to the Khalumbre village on a picnic on Saturday.
He entered the river bed but all of a sudden the water level increased and he was trapped in the river waters at around 5.30pm, an NDRF officer said.
At first, he stood on the rocks but soon the water level increased further and then he decided to climb on a tree, the officer said.
The tree was eight feet tall and the water level, late in the night, increased and it touched top of the tree, the officer said.
However, Dhabadgaon kept on holding a tree branch tightly and kept sitting on a branch. NDRF officials said that Dhabadgaon dared continuous rains, river waters and his sleep.
NDRF team executed the search and rescue operation in the strong current of the waters and continuous rains and rescued him on Sunday morning. First aide was administered to him and he was all fine.
