Delhi: Gang tries to encash fake demand draft of Rs 9.8 crore

NEW DELHI: Officials of Punjab National Bank were surprised when three men came to encash a demand draft of a staggering Rs 9.8 crore.
The draft had been issued by Everest bank, a subsidiary of PNB, in Nepal. However, a joint inquiry by police and the bank revealed that it was a con and the draft was forged.
The accused have been identified as Yash Saxena (42), Devender Singh Malviya (47) and Rajeev Upadhyay, who are residents of Bhopal.
Two of the accused worked as sales staff of a bank and were confident of encashing the draft by the time the bank learned that it was fake. They had helped people clear drafts while taking loans and hatched the plot.
During interrogation, Saxena and Malviya said they had also helped their accomplice, Upadhyay, get a loan for opening a restaurant. The three of them became friends after that.
