Bihar: Colleges gear up for NAAC tag

Thanks to the initiative taken by the Raj Bhavan, more colleges of the state are coming forward for their quality assessment and accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). If all goes well, most of them will be accredited in the current academic year (2019-20).

PATNA: Thanks to the initiative taken by the Raj Bhavan, more colleges of the state are coming forward for their quality assessment and accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). If all goes well, most of them will be accredited in the current academic year (2019-20).
According to the data submitted by the vice-chancellors (VC) of different universities in course of their interaction with the chancellor at the Raj Bhavan recently, more than 75 colleges have already uploaded their self-study reports (SSR) to the NAAC’s website.
Most of the remaining institutions have submitted their internal quality assurance reports (IQAR). Of the 13 conventional universities and 260 constituent colleges in the state, as many as seven universities and 110 colleges have already been assessed and accredited by the NAAC.
The latest university to be assessed by the NAAC is Patna University, which has been awarded B+ grade. Other NAAC-accredited universities include Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University (Grade B), Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University (B), Lalit Narayan Mithila University (B), Magadh University (C) and Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (B). Only Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) and Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) have been awarded A grade by the NAAC.
In Patna University (PU), Patna Women’s College, Magadh Mahila College and College of Arts and Crafts have been accredited. Five others — Patna College, Patna Science College, B N College, Vanijya Mahavidyalaya and Patna Law College — have uploaded their SSRs to the NAAC website.
“Peer teams are likely to visit Patna College and Patna Law College within a month,” PU development officer P K Khan told this newspaper, adding Patna Training College and Women’s Training College would volunteer for NAAC accreditation when the criteria of assessment of training colleges were finalized by the NAAC in consultation with the National Council for Teacher Education.
Under Pataliputra University, 11 of the 25 constituent colleges are NAAC accredited (A N College and College of Commerce, Arts and Science with A grade). All other colleges have submitted their IQARs and are busy preparing their SSRs. On the other hand, in Magadh University, eight of the 19 constituent colleges are accredited. Nine other colleges have submitted their IQARs and SSRs.

“In Veer Kunwar Singh University, 10 of the 18 constituent colleges are NAAC accredited. The remaining eight colleges have submitted their IQARs and SSRs and are waiting for the peer team’s visit,” said VC D P Tiwary.
In Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University, three of the 14 constituent colleges are already accredited. All the remaining 11 colleges have submitted their IQARs and six of them have also uploaded their SSRs. In Purnea University, three out of the 13 constituent colleges are accredited and others are preparing their SSRs.
“In Munger University, only two of the 17 constituent colleges — R D & D J College and B N M College — are NAAC accredited. Eight other colleges have submitted their IQARs and SSRs,” said VC Ranjit Kumar Verma.
In Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, 21 of the 39 constituent colleges are accredited. As many as 16 colleges have uploaded their SSRs and are waiting for the peer team’s visit. In Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, eight constituent colleges, including Marwari College and T N B College, are accredited. The remaining institutions have submitted their IQARs and are preparing their SSRs. Similarly, in Jai Prakash University, six of the 21 constituent colleges are accredited.
