Dacoit Babli Kol, who carried a reward of Rs seven lakh on his head and was wanted in both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, has been killed in an encounter with the MP police. His accomplice Lavlesh Kol was also killed in the encounter.
The MP police said they had received a tip about the gang’s location and a team of about 50 police personnel was on the gang’s trail since Sunday morning. A senior officer said the encounter took place around 6 pm. He said there were five to six gang members who fired more than a dozen rounds.
Four gang members managed to escape, he said.
However, there was another version that the gangsters were killed by their own man after a fight over spoils. The police said they shot dead the two.
Babli Kol had kidnapped a farmer from MP recently. The farmer returned safely amid reports that he had paid ransom to the gang.
The police, however, said the gang had been forced to release the farmer because the police had stepped up heat.
