VADODARA: The Vadodara rural police and Waghodiya-based Parul University (PU) organized a hackathon competition for technology and engineering students.
Hackathon Crime and Security-2019 was organized on Friday and Saturday at the university under the aegis of Suraksha Setu Society of the rural police department. Around 100 students of PU formed 30 teams for participating in the 24-hour long competition.
The students made several mobile-based applications and web-controlled software to make policing work easy.
Among the many software and applications developed some of them were made for protection of women during late night hours, seizing counterfeit currency notes, stopping crimes done through fake websites among others. Students also developed projects for serving e-challans to commuters, biometric solutions to track down fake cops, identifying and containing rumours spread on social media, filing FIRs online and tracking the status of a case.
The winners of the competition were felicitated by assistant superintendent of Vadodara rural police Ravindra Patel and provost registrar of PU.
The hackathon was organized by the direction of superintendent of Vadodara rural police Tarun Kumar Duggal as the director general of police has asked police in every district of state to organize such competitions.
