Bank manager held for Rs 3.95 crore loan fraud in Patna

PATNA: A Siliguri crime branch team arrested Union Bank of India branch manager Ashutosh Kumar from Pataliputra Colony police station area in Patna on Saturday for alleged involvement in fraudulent disbursal of Rs3.95 crore loan from Sevoke Road branch of the bank at Siliguri in Darjeeling district of West Bengal.
An FIR in this connection was lodged against eight persons with Siliguri police station on December 17 last year. Pataliputra SHO Kamleshwar Prasad Singh said the accused was arrested from a flat at Om Sai Enclave at road number 24 in North Patel Nagar.“He was produced before ACJM court of judge Ratneshwar Kumar Singh, who granted his transit remand,” he said.
Singh said Kumar was earlier posted at Siliguri. A court at Siliguri had issued arrest warrant against Kumar on August 6 this year after which police had also procured proclamation notice against him on August 22.
“The crime branch came to know that his permanent address was 20, South Indirapuri at Kesri Nagar under Pataliputra police station area. However, he was hiding in his Patel Nagar flat,” he said.
According to the FIR lodged at Siliguri police station, Rs1.2 crore loan was disbursed to one Vijay Kumar Sharma, Rs70 lakh to Vinod Kumar Bansal, Rs75 lakh to Madan Lal Sharma, Rs35 lakh to Parimal Roy and Rs 95 lakh to one Anjan Bose.
All these persons were named accused in the FIR lodged on the complaint filed by the then senior manager Abinash Barika of the bank’s Sevoke Road branch.
SHO Singh, quoting the crime branch team, said the loans were disbursed on forged documents, including land deeds and other immovable property documents.
