Boy drowns in Mumbai as immersion plank crashes

A 12-year-old boy's body was fished out of a lake in Vasai on Saturday.The police said the boy probably fell inside after a makeshift plank-erected for Ganesh idol immersions- collapsed under his weight.

MUMBAI: A 12-year-old boy's body was fished out of a lake in Vasai on Saturday. The police said the boy probably fell inside after a makeshift plank-erected for Ganesh idol immersions- collapsed under his weight.
Kunal Gupta, a resident of Bodhwadi, Papdi in Vasai (west), was playing in the Papdi talao nearby with five of his friends.
A source said Kunal stepped onto the plank that been erected for visarjan.
The plank turned turtle and Kunal fell into the water. His friends panicked and raised an alarm. Locals rushed to the talao and jumped into the water to rescue the boy. He was pulled out of the lake and rushed to the hosptial, where he was declared dead on admission.
The Vasai police have registered a case of accidental death.
