Mumbai woman posts furniture sale advertisement, duped of Rs 5,000

A 23-year-old MBA student from Powai lost Rs 5,000 from her e-wallet after she posted an e-advertisement on a sale-purchase platform. The “prospective buyer” said he would pay by e-wallet and, instead of sending her a request for payment to be deducted from his e-wallet sent a request for payment to be made from the student’s wallet, the police said, adding that the woman accepted the request and her account was debited.

MUMBAI: A 23-year-old MBA student from Powai lost Rs 5,000 from her e-wallet after she posted an e-advertisement on a sale-purchase platform. The “prospective buyer” said he would pay by e-wallet and, instead of sending her a request for payment to be deducted from his e-wallet sent a request for payment to be made from the student’s wallet, the police said, adding that the woman accepted the request and her account was debited.
Minutes after she had put out the ad for furniture sale on September 5, a man who identified himself as Shrikant, fixed a deal to buy the furniture.
The police said the caller told her to accept the request he would send her. “She did not realise he’d sent a request for money to be deduced from her account,” said the officer.
