Four die in two separate road accidents in Delhi

New Delhi: Four people died in two separate incidents of reckless driving in the national capital in the past 24 hours, the police said here on Monday.

In the first incident, two auto-rickshaw drivers were killed after a speeding car collided with autos in Outer North Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area on early hours on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Sanjay Sareen (40) and Jaikishan Gupta (36), residents of Swaroop Nagar. Police said during investigation, it was found that the car was driven by the man identified as Mohit (23), a resident of Bhairon Enclave in Palam.

According to Gaurav Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Outer-North district, Mohit was returning home from Murthal after having dinner with his friends when they reached near Swaroop Nagar Bus Stand, GT Karnal road at around 1.40 a.m., the car hit the auto-rickshaw drivers who were waiting for passengers at the bus stand.

“Both the injured persons were rushed to the BJRM Hospital which referred the case to LNJP Hospital. At around 8.30 a.m. on Monday, both drivers succumbed to injuries during treatment,” said the DCP adding that a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and Mohit has been apprehended.

In the second incident of rash and reckless driving, an elderly couple were mowed down by a speeding truck on the wee hours of Monday at Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area.

The deceased have been identified as Hukam Chand (64) and his wife Beena (55), residents of Kirari in Delhi. According to a senior police official, on Monday around 6 a.m.

“While they were crossing road, a speeding truck hit them and fled from the spot. Beena died on the spot while Hukam Chand succumbed to injuries during the treatment in LNJP hospital, said the police official.

“A case under section 279/304 A of the IPC has been registered at Jahangirpuri police station and police teams have been formed to nab the accused driver,” said the police official.
