Motherboard manufacturers have begun to release firmware updates to add support for Intel's Core i9-9900KS processor. The CPU is like a turbo-charged Core i9-9900K that is capable of running all 8 cores at 5GHz. The CPU is due for release next month so it isn't at all surprising to see motherboard makers starting release BIOS revisions for the 9900KS.
ASRock and ASUS are first to be out of the gate with the updates and it is likely that other vendors will soon be following suit.
Here's a list of the motherboard models that have the new BIOS versions available so far.
For ASRock:
- Z390 Phantom Gaming X
- Z390 Taichi
- Z390 Steel Legend
- Z390M Pro4
For ASUS:
- ROG Maximus XI Apex
- ROG Maximus XI Gene
- ROG Maximus XI Hero(Wi-Fi)
- ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming
You can download the respective BIOS of a particular model from the support section of the motherboard manufacturer's website.
Unsurprisingly, so far it's only the flagship Z390 chipset models that are getting this update as the 5GHz i9-9900KS will most likely require excellent VRM cooling, considering a constant high core voltage will be pushed through the VRMs to sustain such high clocks.
Once the chip lands next month, it will be interesting to see if the i9-9900KS can improve Intel's desktop competitive positioning against AMD.
